Facts and context
Every document you give Giant Context is filed as one of two kinds: a fact or context. A fact is something the AI is allowed to quote word for word — a price, a spec, a bio, an answer to a support question. Context is background that shapes how the AI writes — your positioning, your competitive research, your brand voice — but never shows up quoted in what it publishes. Getting this split right is what lets the AI generate on its own without your research leaking onto a page as if it were a promise you made.
Two kinds of knowledge
The difference is whether the AI may repeat it. A fact is quotable. When you mark a document as a fact, you're telling the AI it can state what's inside exactly — the number, the wording, the claim. Context is not quotable. It informs the angle, the tone, and the strategy, but the AI reads it to understand your world, not to lift sentences out of it.
Public and private
The second question is who can reach the file. A public file is reachable at a URL — the same way an image on your site is. A private file stays private; it's served only through short-lived links when the platform needs it. Images tend to default to public, since your site embeds them. Documents tend to default to private.

The three modes
When you upload a file, you pick one of three modes. Not four — and the missing fourth is the interesting part.
There's no "private context," and that's on purpose. Context exists to shape what the AI writes, and once it's shaping your public output, its role is already public. There's nothing to keep private about the influence it has. So if something is background, it's Public Context. If something needs to stay private but be quoted exactly, it's Private + Fact. Every real case fits one of the three.

This split is the safety mechanism. Facts assert; context informs. When the AI builds a page, it pulls your facts into the parts that state things — prices, claims, quotes — and it can state them exactly because you marked them quotable. It reads your context to get the angle and the voice right, but your competitive research and your positioning never appear word for word in a fact-bound block. Research and strategy shape the work without bleeding into it as something you said.
The surfaces enforce it. Your public chat only ever answers from facts — it never sees your private context or your research. The page builder and the console Assistant see both facts and context.
